wolfie, may 2001 - may 2008
wolfie - also known as wolfman jones, wolfgang amedeus catzart, wolfster - died suddenly on the evening of may 20, 2008. he is preceded in death by his friend ida frichtel-farmer, and survived by parents jaime & cheryl & step-dad, jacob.
wolfie was found in the wilds of rural virginia when he was just a few months old. after trying out a few homes, he settled with jaime and cheryl in washington, dc, shortly before september 11, 2001. after living in dc for 2 years, he traveled to brooklyn, then to new orleans, back to brooklyn, and finally settled in wolfie's castle in minneapolis, minnesota.
in his spare time, wolfie loved to eat raw fish, throw his catnip banana around, poop in jaime's garden, have mommy cheryl visit, sit at the front window and wait for jaime & jacob to come home, follow jaime wherever she went, watch birds and squirrels (out the window or on tv), listen to quasi's "featuring birds," have his chin scratched, kiss jacob on the lips, and most of all, sleep, preferably on top of whoever was available.
we miss you, wolfie!

wolfie,
i will miss you so much and all the slugs (myself incuded) are all welling up with tears.
here's to a great friend, uber-hott model maine coon, hairball champion, and all-around lounge-a-bout cool dude.
embraces to jaime, cheryl, and jacob. hope you are ok.

jaime & i had only thought briefly about getting a cat... we were just a couple of crazy young girls in our early 20s, but we fell instantly and madly in love with wolfie, a ball of fluff and fun, who comforted us, bugged us at 3am, shed hair all over the damn place, and cracked us up on a regular basis. jaime was a wonderful cat-mom, and jacob was a stellar cat-step-dad. i know the loss of wolfie will resonate with all his former housemates and friends at emerson street and beyond. and special thanks to katie, troy and meghan for bringing him into our lives. we love you wolfie!
goodbye, wolfie. you were the awesomest cat ever. i looked forward to hanging out with you when i visited you in the many states you lived in... you didn't like me at first, but you eventually came around and wanted my attention when i visited your castle. i will miss seeing you in the window.
this will always be my favorite picture of you: sis & wolfie.
i hope you are in kitty heaven pooping in gardens... xxxooo
I'm super sad that I won't be able to see wolfie when we all come out there next month. But I know he lived a lovely life, maybe minus the Pants-Wolfie-Ida conflicts of '02-'03.
I remember most fondly our short stint together in Hollywood. We were an unbeatable team. See for yourself. No one lit up the screen like that cat - http://www.jennymiller.com/special/wolfie's%20day%20off.mov
A few things I remember about Wolfie:
He looked insanely cute wrapped up in a blanket.
Sometimes he'd look at me with an indifference that said more than any words could ever convey.
He was founding member of an amazing pop band from champagne, Il. "Where's Wolfie" is an amazing summer record.

When he (and Jaime and Jacob) were kind enough to let me record in their living room, Wolfie offered me production advice, played 2nd guitar, and sang back ups.
He always got the best beers and shared.
and he was so cute.

wolfman jones! oh what a sweetheart.
wolfie was mr popular and he definitely knew how to work the room - he could drink beers and watch football with the fellas or knit with the ladies... and we all loved him for it. he will definitely be missed.
thanks so much, you guys - it's so nice to hear from you all what a unique kitty friend wolfie was. give your kitties lots of kisses for us!
something i'll really miss is jacob putting wolfiehat on my head. he made such a beautiful hat, although the 20lbs probably wasn't so good for my neck...
1. wolfie was frequently mistaken for a raccoon by brooklynites... haha.
2. i will always regret not taking more photos of him when he was a teeny kitten with gigantic hairy ears!
How did Wolfie get so big? I think he's been eating fried cheese curds! I still remember him as an impossibly furry kitten during an impossibly warm DC summer! He graced the cover of one of my wedding shower cards when he was still just a wee babe :-) I have that pic somewhere... But I seem to remember a particularly fabulous one with a remote-- that's my fav! He was so well cared for, well traveled, and loved by people in several states... Truly a part of the family-- not many kitties make it into the wedding photos, nor travel so often on planes! Wolfie you were a special guy and we will miss seeing you in MN.
My favorite game was to sit Wolfie in my lap and make him play the air drums. He was a very tolerant cat. I think maybe he even enjoyed it. We also used to place a game called "Space Wolfie".
My mother met Wolfie a few times when we lived together (me and Wolfie, not me and my mother). She's not an animal-lover at all - she forgets that I have had a cat for 11 years - but she was very taken with Wolfie. So much so that, to this day, she refers to all Maine Coones as "wolfie-cats", as in "My neighbor has one of those wolfie-cats."
Godspeed, old pal.

Oh Wolfie Cat
You lived like a king
Playing with cat toys,
People and string
You traveled to New York
New Orleans, D.C.
You got around like
A feline Rick Steves
You ate up our love
Which made you quite heavy
And lived a full life
With a fuller belly
Our laps will be empty
Without your soft purr
And clothes won’t seem right
Without your brown fur
But now that you’re gone
At least I know that
When I picture God
He’ll have you as a hat
Ohhhhhh, Wolfie. The best cat ever. The sweetest, furriest, most-scared-of-me-yet-still-let-me-love-him, biggest kittie.
I'll miss him a lot. (Thank goodness we have about 100 photos of him in a blanket!)

Dear Jaime, Cheryl, and Jacob,
I am so sad to hear that Wolfie has passed away. I only met him a few times but fell madly in love with all of his fluffy-ness and cat-charm. He was a wonderful cat and I know he was loved so very much by his family. He will certainly be remembered as one of the great cats of all time.
Love,
Jill and Abigail Kitters Meowington, III (a fellow large cat)
what i remember most about Wolfie is that while was doted upon by his entire family, he never let it go to his head.
he was clearly the center of their universe, yet remained an equal opportunity lap-sitter. he had plenty of love for everyone.
Wolfie was a prince among cats.
love, sarah
Wolfie will never be forgotten at Emerson House, as we have a dozen photos of him on the refrigerators. You all are #1 Cat Moms and Stepdad.
Love and spanks,
JM
whenever i'm at emho, i fixate on wolfie's fridge photo. he looks like a giant version of my cat, dottie brown. rest peacefully, wolfie.
